A short drama script that may disappoint you

 THE SECLUDED LOVE

by Imelda and Will

SCENE ONE

INT. DR. WILLIAMS’ LIBRARY – DAY

The morning sunshine greeted through the dusty gap in the bookshelf, replacing the cold air that had accompanied Edith's day. Her hope never changed, just like before. She opened her eyes, but all hope was gone in the blink of an eye. She was still herself, the fictional character of an obsolete novel. She remained in a novel realm within a book called Garden of Terra. Her world never changed.

EDITH

Honestly, here is a beautiful world, but wouldn't it be great if I could try new things in the real-world?

[A man entered the room]

The sound of footsteps made her smile expand.

EDITH

I know who would come to this place. Someone who always visited me, no, rather visited the old books here. Go in, find the book he wanted, then leave. Like that, every day, in the morning. I don't know how many books he has read, but he never touched me. Am I too bad?

[The man walked through the shelves, stopped by a corner and picked one of the old novels]

EDITH (CONT’D)

That's what I always think about, but you know, today he took me! A thousand words cannot describe how elated I am.

Edith, who has lived at Dr. Williams' library since its opening in 1980, has never seen or experienced the wonders of the outside world. She could even count the number of people who had chosen her. One thing she vividly reminisced about was the days Dr. William created her in the memory of his only beloved daughter, Edith William, who died due to a rare lung infection.

SCENE TWO

INT. DR. WILLIAMS LIBRARY’S READING ROOM – DAY

The book was put down on top of a table, and the man began to read and learn everything about the book.

EDITH

(talked in despair)

Hello fancy guy, can you apprehend my voice? I reside inside this book; If you hear me, please respond; I'm begging you.

Throughout the event, Edith tried to communicate with the man by shouting as loud as she could. Unfortunately, her effort was futile as the man didn't hear even a single tone of her voice. The continuous reading of the book has caused the gentleman to feel drowsy; thus, the man decided to take a nap with his head and chest on top of the table. Knowing the man had begun his deep slumber, Edith decided to take a nap too, leaving both of them unconscious atop the table.

A few hours passed, and her consciousness began to recover. The moment Edith opened her eyes, she realized something different. Somehow, she felt that her body had become larger. She realized that she had been shifted to the human universe. Subsequently, the gentleman who borrowed the book began to awaken too.

[The man raised his face from the wooden board that he rested on beforehand

The moment he lifted his face, the rays of the sunlight penetrated through the windows, beaming his handsome appearance.

THE MAN

(startled by her appearance)

W–WHO ARE YOU?

EDITH

Woah! This is bizarre!

(feeling nervous)

Err-- I’m Edith. It appears that somehow my body and soul has been transferred to this world. This is purely amazing!

THE MAN

What on earth are you talking about?! You’re lying!

EDITH

Is there anything that I can do to make you believe? I assure you that I am not lying.

THE MAN

NO! There’s nothing you need to prove, this is nonsense!

(the tension was escalating)

EDITH

Trust me, please! I come from a world of enchanted forests called Garden of Terra, which is located inside the book you are reading.

[Edith pointed at the novel that the man was reading]

THE MAN

(started to feel annoyed)

I’m not going to trust a single word that comes from your deceiving mouth! I’m leaving.

(talked to himself)

This woman is delusional.

[The man left the room, leaving Edith alone and never came back]
